CrossFit is a worldwide strength and conditioning fitness program whose goal is to prepare you for the unknown and unknowable. Whether you are coming off the couch or you are a professional athlete, CrossFit is scalable to all levels, making this the ideal fitness program for anyone regardless of age or experience. Every day is different in a CrossFit gym. By utilizing a variety of exercises including running, rowing, plyometrics, gymnastics, weight training, and Olympic lifting, your body is constantly having to adapt. This prevents the fitness plateaus many of us face after months of training our bodies in the same way. Our specialty is not specializing.
We all know what high intensity means- increased heart rate, heavy breathing, and hopefully some sweating. High intensity is what produces all of the “good changes” in your body. What is considered high intensity for you may not be the same for a professional athlete- that is why everything we do can be scaled to all levels.
What is Fitness?
World-Class Fitness in 100 Words by Greg Glassman, founder of CrossFit:
- Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.
- Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope
climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc., hard and fast.
- Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.
- Regularly learn and play new sports.
